Learning

Please answer all of the following questions: (Make sure you proofread and use complete sentences)These should be elaborate thoughts, not one sentence repsonses!

1) After viewing Mr. Fisch's world-renown "Did you Know" powerpoint, what ideas strike you about the facts presented?
How does this make you think about the world and your place in it? How could this impact you?

2) Also, what did Danny Macaskill's, "Inspired Bikes" make you think about perseverance, hard work, potential, etc...? How can you apply what you saw from his adventures, doing bike tricks, to your own life?

3) What is the value of learning? What is your role as a learner?

  1. After watching Mr. Fisch's presentation some ideas that struck me were that we the schools and students should try really hard to beat Great Britain and that we should really step it up. After watching Danny Macaskill's video Inspired Bikes I think that he has puts a lot of heart and determination into riding bikes and learning how to do all of the tricks that he knows. This video inspired me to try hard and be determined to do anything that I wanted to and like in his video he tried sometimes and failed a lot but he did not give up so I think that I should not give up also.

  2. After watching Mr.Fisch's presentation some of the things that stood out to me were the facts about the online communities having a lager population than most of the Countries. That tells me that our technology has improved and has become more of a "necessity" to the human population. This makes me wonder if we will become completely reliable on technology and be totally incapable of living with out it.

  3. After watching the presentation, I learned numerous things. Some are that there are over 106 million people signed up for MySpace and if it was its own country it would be 11th largest and is viewed on average 30 times a day. These numbers really surprised me on how many people use social media. After the Danny Makaskill video, I learned to keep on trying even if you keep failing. He persevered through everything and succeeded. If I apply these skills to my everyday life, then I will become better at whatever i'm doing. Both of these videos were very inspiring and I will start applying the skills I learned from both these videos.

  4. After viewing Mr. Fisch’s video, “Did You Know?” many ideas ran through my mind. For example, when one of the facts said that basically Great Britain was the most successful country, I was very surprised because I would’ve never guessed that Great Britain would be the country to take that title. I think that us as Americans should try and take that title. I also was shocked to hear that India has the worlds highest IQ’s. I feel that students in the US would be able to bypass India if we put effort to it. After watching this video I feel my place in this world is much much smaller than I thought before. The “Did You Know?” video impacted me because I never realized how much technology has progressed in these past years. For example, one of the facts stated that in 1984 the number of internet devices was 1,000, in 2008 it grew to 1,000,000,000. When I watched Danny Macaskill’s “Inspired Bikes” it made me feel like I got a boost of motivation. I think “Inspired Bikes” relates to perseverance and hard work because it showed that yes, even though Danny Macaskill didn’t land a certain trick the first try he tried and tried again until he landed it. I can apply Danny Macaskill’s “Inspired Bikes” video to my own life because it teaches you that if you do give effort to something you do you will eventually accomplish it, it teaches you that you can’t always do something right the first time but if you work hard and have perseverance it will pay off in the end. The value of learning is much greater than most people that can freely learn and go to school realize because not everyone has the opportunity to learn. My role as a learner and student is to do everything I can to take advantage of all this knowledge and try to gain as much information as possible.

  5. After viewing Mr. Fisch's world- renown "Did you Know" power point, it made me think a lot about my position in the world, and what the world has turned into. This video was made several years back about the future of technology and the world. The scary thing is that technology is getting so advanced; it will soon surpass the abilities of the human brain. The concept that struck me the most in this video was that China will soon become the number one English speaking country in the world. In my eyes, this shows me that the culture of other nations is being ruined by the advanced technology in our world. To me, family, culture, and your beliefs come first. In my opinion, technology is taking this away from the world. This makes me think that I need to stand my ground and spread my beliefs of traditional values. I don't want technology to overrule the human capacity of knowledge. Technology is a source to help make our lives easier, not take what we believe is important away from us. Our brains are the most useful tool in the world, and nothing should surpass our abilities in my opinion.
Danny Macaskill's video of "Inspired Bicycles", made me ponder the thought of never giving up, and staying with something that you love. Bicycling is obviously a life passion, dream, and goal, for Danny, so I give him a ton of credit for following his dreams and making an impact on the world. I assume doing those bike tricks took a ton of practice and perseverance. I’m sure he fell off of his bike several times, but he always got back up and tried again. I can apply his adventures and skills to my own life by never giving up, following my dreams, and always getting back up when I hit a bump in the road. By applying all of these skills to my life, I will succeed in the most spectacular ways and live an excellent, successful life.
The value of learning is extremely important as well. There are thousands of kids in the world who would do anything to have a proper education. Here in America we take it for granted that we get to go to school every day, and have the availability and resources to learn, and get an amazing education. Some students say that they don’t want to go to school, but they aren’t realizing the value of education and learning. Without education, our world would be extremely different. We would not have all of the tools and materials that we think of as necessities for our everyday lives. Our greatest inventions and accomplishments have come from learning from our mistakes and being open-minded. As a learner, I will always appreciate the education that I am receiving, and be grateful for those who are willing to teach me. As a learner, I will also spread the word about how important education is, and how important it is to educate ourselves.

  6. After watching, Mr. Fisch's power point, "Did You Know?" A million ideas ran through my head. All of which included us trying in some way trying to beat Great Britain in many different things. I and many other students could have never guessed that Great Britain was a very, very successful country. Many ideas running through my head. Since I live in America, it makes me want to try very hard to try to become more successful than Great Britain.
After watching "Inspired Bicycles" it really made me think, if I am trying to go after something in my life, I should never ever give up. I will never give up until I get what I am going after.
My role as a learner, is if I am struggling in something in class and I just want to give up, I cant and I will not. I have to strive to do what I want to go after in life. Education is a very important aspect in life.

  7. Did you Know Blog Response

Several of the Ideas in the “Did you know” video struck me as shocking or otherwise unreal. The amount of people speaking English in China exceeding the number of English speaking people in the United States is astonishing but also not unrealistic. This makes me think about weather the U.S as a whole is behind on it’s education, or if China and other Asian countries are just ahead. The other fact that amazed me was about the massive numbers of people using social media sights such as Facebook and Twitter. The fact that so many users can come together and eventually grow bigger than countries seem unrealistic and in some cases bizarre that so many people would have time to waste on chatting with friends across the internet, instead of meeting face to face.

Inspiring bicycles made me think about the potential of everyone. It also made me think about a quote; “If at first you fail, try try again.” When at first the biker was trying to make it across the narrow fence and kept falling off, he got up and got back onto his bike until he finally accomplished his goal. It also probably took years to learn all the trick in his video, and makes me think about what everyone can accomplish if they just put their mind to it.

  8. Mr. Fisch's "Did you know?" video, I realized quite quickly that America's student's are slacking being that we have so much more opportunity. The fact that the kids in India where way smarter than us here in the USA struck me as a big surprise. This video also made me think about how the whole world is so dependent and into technology. I always knew that computers and such where pretty big for us but it begins to worry me about how the computer is smarter than the human brain because if we have a tool that exceeds our own brain capacity, then what reason would we have for using our brain as much as people in the past had to? I believe that this technology may create a era of fools and this video makes me feel like I am just another one of the slaves of the internet. I don't think that we should be using computers so much in our education, although it may be easier, because if we take things the east way when learning how to live our lives, we will struggle in the future when dealing with the real world. I now think that we should not have these computers every day in every class and become reliant on them, because our parents didn't need them, and I don't see why we should. Now, the "Inspired bikes" video was really cool and showed to me what committing to something can make you accomplish. This guy has probably fallen so extremely hard so many times in developing this skill that it is unbelievable, but what is even more unbelievable is that he was able to continue from them all to get to the place that he is. I think about my athletics when I think about this guy's perseverance. I am going to take a lot of big hits in football, but if I want to be a great player, I am going to have to get up every time. I'm also going to have to push myself in the weight room to the max and on the field, and if I can do these things, I will be an awesome player. This guy is a great inspiration to me although his sport is completely different from mine, but his work ethic is still just as impressive as us athletes' should be if we want to achieve things as difficult as he does on his bicycle. I have learned from both of these videos some pretty important things, but learning in itself is even more important. Without the ability to learn, we would all be idiots. If we where all idiots, this world would get nowhere. My role as a learner ultimately, I believe, is to make sure that this world of idiots never exists, by not being one of them.

  9. After watching Mr. Fisch's "Did You Know". I was amazed at how much technology will come to after 2023. When I saw how far China and India are so much far ahead than the U.S.A. Other facts that amazed me is that there are more messages sent a day than people in the world. Another fact is that a computer knows more than an average human brain.

Inspired Bicycles, by Danny Macaskill, was amazing how he kept on trying and finnaly got to do great tricks just on a bike in the streets. What made me really interested in that video is that I didn't even know some of that could be done in that video. Even though it may have been really hard. Danny just kept on trying and put his mind to doing the tricks that he did so completed them.

  10. Mr. Fisch's "Did you Know" power point really had me thinking about how much our education system could and should improve. It puts me in udder disbelief hearing how so many other countries are smarter or more developed. Although I was disappointed in the factual information provided, I did feel more of a push to get better academically. I feel as if after this video, opinions on the way education systems are run in America really changed for the better. This video impacted my outlook on how seriously I take tests or quizzes and how I feel about the teachers throughout the country. They do a lot more than us students would think.

Danny Macaskill's, "Inspired Bikes" helped me to see the importance in the phrase "keep trying". Practice really does make perfect and hard work beats talent! At the very beginning of the video when he kept falling very harshly and getting back up as if nothing happened, made me think of how I do crash and burn when I sing certain songs or certain notes but I correct myself and keep trying. Perseverance was the main point that this video taught me.

My value in learning is to help the world by teaching others and inspiring others to do the same. This is not an easy goal, but with enough support and guidance, I too can make a difference in other people lives.

  11. After viewing Mr. Fisch's world-renown "Did you Know" PowerPoint, the facts that did strike me the most were that there are so many more honor students in China then there are in the US, and that basically in just a couple of years technology will take over our lives. The students in China being more intelligent than American students was not a surprise to me but I did not think there would be this many of the Chinese that were honor students. When I read that slide during the presentation not only did I question the intelligence of America but also I wondered is our education system is as good as we can get it. The other fact I found intriguing was that part of the presentation basically said technology will take over the human race in just a couple of years. While reading this slide it just made me think that all my life I have had these great inventions and I always wonder how people can get good grades without the technology we have today. It also made me want the technology stop where it is right now so that things don't get out of hand.
Watching the video "Inspired Bicycles" by Danny Macaskill's, it made the thought go through my head that anything is possible if you just set your mind to it. Macaskill didn't look like he was the most athletic guy in the world, but he could extravagant bicycle tricks that were better than, in my opinion, some of the professionals on T.V. I can apply this to myself because some kids my age (in baseball) can hit the ball a mile when they get a hold of it, just because of their size. On the other hand there are kids like me that are five feet and two inches, so I have to work twice as hard as some other kids just to be able to smack the ball as far as they can. After watching this video I now know that I can do it and preserver through my triumphs.
In my opinion the value of learning is to one day apply what you learned in school to the real world during your job. I have recently discovered that all jobs require things that you learned in school have to apply to any job. For example, architects will use basic math to build different kids of buildings the construct. Also even firefighters need to know how to read and use basic study skills to pass the enormous test they have to take. My role as a learner is as simple as doing homework and paying attention in class. Doing this will not only get me good grades but I will also comprehend the subject we are learning about.

  12. Mr.Fisch's presentation was very inspirational and factual, but there were a few that stood out and surprised me. One was that By the year 2013 (now)there will be a computer with computational capability that exceeds the human brain. This surprised me because the human brain is so complex and intelligent that I could never imagine a computer being smarter than the brain. Two that the average text messages sent and received exceeds the worlds population. At first I thought that this calculation was incorrect because there are over 6 billion people on the Earth. But then I considered how many people have phones. These facts impact me in a positive way because who knows how much we can achieve and create over time. In the future we could discovered a quick and easy way to cure all kinds of cancer. Or we will have discovered a new planet that can contain life. Who knows what we can do.
After watching Danny Macaskill's video I knew that this was just another reason to full fill my goals and to never give up. I Can apply this to my everyday life in multiple ways, school, sports, and even family goals. Learning is so important, it allows us to do better and live life to its fullest.

  13. After viewing Mr. Fisch’s world-renown “Did you Know” power point, it strikes me on the change in the world. America once was the greatest place to live. We were the smartest, the richest, had the government, and one of the biggest populations. Now both China and India tower over us in populations. Also, now England has the most money, largest military, and is setting the standards for the rest of the world. I want to know what happen to drastically change that. This makes me open up my eyes more. Many Americans take pride to be an American because it is ‘the great country’ but in reality it isn't. Americas education standards also surprises me. Nintendo spent twice as much on research for games than the government spent on research for education. This make me question our government. Another thing that shocked me was the technology innovations. A computer starter than the whole human race in 2049. Not to mention, that the amount of technology doubles each year. I have always had this set image of what my life would be like when I am older. After watching this video and realizing the changes that are constantly happening, I don’t even know what I should expect in my life. But then theirs was a contradiction. Danny Macaskill’s, “Inspired Bikes” made me think the more I work, and try, that image can come to a reality. Brian Tracy once said, “The potential of the average person is like a huge ocean unsailed, a new continent unexplored, a world of possibilities waiting to be released and channeled toward some great good.” This video represents this perfectly, because if Danny Macaskill never ‘sailed his ocean’ he would never been able to do any trick on his bike. If everyone ‘sailed their ocean’ the world would be a better place. Once having watched these videos I will now value education more. If I use my education to my full advantage, I can and will get further in life.

  14. After watching Mr. Fisch's "Did You Know" video I thought that we should be trying harder academically to be the best that we can be. The video also said that China is the number one English speaking country in the world, that means that there are more people that speak English in China than in the U.S.

After watching “Inspired Bicycles” I think of how much work that it must have taken to learn how to have the amount of control required to be able to do those bike tricks. I can apply that to real life by saying that if you try hard enough at something then you can do anything.

  15. After viewing Mr.Fischs world renowned power point "Did you Know", it made me think more on how fast the human race is growing, but most importantly how much more faster technology is growing. But also how our government really doesnt care about our education, i mean if a game company is willing to spend more money on research then our government will spend on education, that just shows you the "importance" of our generation to the government. It also showed how America is loosing its edge, and ranks following it. Danny Macaskill's video "Inspired bikes" to me wasent about biking, but it was a metaphoric message, which was no matter how high you want to get you will get there, and yes it does involve you falling but you just have to get up and get higher. The value of learning is that it prepares you to learn more, because history is in the making every second. So with that value it goes with the role of a learner, which is a life long role. The role is simple, never stop learning.

  16. After watching Mr. Fisch’s world-renown “Did you Know” video, many things came to light upon me that i never thought twice about before. For the longest time i honestly thought The United States of America was the number one country in the world. Wether is our vast army, phenomenal education system, or the amounts of money. I now know none of this is true, we are not on top we arn't even close. There is more people out there working harder and harder every day just to be where they are today. What many kids our age dont understand, is how easy we have how much we have things handed to us on a silver platter, we take it all for granite. Before the invention of the computer and the internet what did we do? Now knowing that over 100 million people are current users on myspace, there are over 2.7 billion google searches each month, and not to mention the number of text messages sent each day outnumbers the human population on the planet. What i really dont understand is how we did stuff before technology, what was it like? Knowing that the amount of technical information is doubling every two years is mind blowing. How far into the future is technology going to be depended on? With these stats changing every day it seems to me that within 20 years we will be 100% dependable on technology. Watching this video only made me ask more questions then ever before, It made me really think about what this world is coming to, and how much we really depend on technology as a whole. It really caught me off guard when it said students in india are smarter then students in the U.S. I suppose it's because have more opportunity, we have more jobs to pick from we have more choices in life, And in india if you want a job yo have to work harder and better then the guy ahead of you. This video really showed me so much i could'nt see before. I now
know to use my education to its maximum to really get a head start on life.

  17. After viewing Mr. Fisch's world-renown "Did you Know" powerpoint, some ideas came to my head. One of them was, I wonder if America wont be a world power anymore, because India and China are the smartest countries. This also makes me wonder if the US is going to have a big technological era to boost us up and invent lots of good things that will help the US. How I feel in the world after seeing the powerpoint, I look at China and India so much differently because i had no idea how smart they were. So now I feel like the US is starting to fail and not be as good as we should be. This could really impact me because I would really like to be one of the kids that goes above and beyond. Danny Macaskill's, "Inspired Bikes" makes me want to push my self in sports and academics because i would really like to play football in college, and to get to that point you have to push yourself really hard. My value of learning is to never give up and try your best. My role as a learner is to always give one hundred percent in whatever you are doing.

  18. When I saw the video "Did you Know" by Mr. Fisch I was in a state of awe and amazement. Mr. Fisch changed my perspective on how I saw life, education and everyday life like work. I was most amazed about how we as students today are preparing for work that isn't even here in the present day. I see the world completely different now, the jobs the technology, everything. The world this present day is not living for today; it's now living for the future, years down the road. Today's jobs could be gone when just a few years goes by. When I saw this video I realized my place in this world was not only to become successful, but to impact the world with great knowledge that I learn in my youth. The people in generations to come won't have the same knowledge as I am gaining, but even better knowledge. With in future to come my baby brother will be more knowing and knowledgeable than me because of the technology. My place in this world is unknown to myself as well as my family, only time can tell. Now, when I watch "Inspired Bikes" by Danny Macaskill I was inspired to go and do amazing things. To not give them up either. This video applied to my life in various ways for example; my music. Last year I gave up on cello because I felt as if I wasn't good enough as the others, and so I felt lost without it. Cello was what made me try to be better, strive for the best. So, this year I'm back in and ready to give my 110%. The video made me want to try and be the best I can be and to NEVER give up on dreams and goals in life because without them, there isn't anything to be, to strive for. The value of learning is very important to the point I can't stress enough. Learning is for our future to be who we strive to be when we're older. The role as a learner is just as important as it is to learn. Being the learner means you collect as much information as you can for the future. Being a learner means you use all of the knowledge you can to be the best, and past your goals and dreams. Using my education will get me beyond my dreams and goals.

  19. This past week we had the opportunity to experience Mr. Fisch's brilliant video clip of "Did you know". The clip still ponders in my mind, about the deep facts that were presented to my self and many others who have had the opportunity to experience his work. Many facts still ring in my head about the advancement to come in our world, from having a computer that is more brilliant than a human mind in less than a forty year time period. Our world is revolving more and more around technology and the knowledge advancement behind the basics of level one technology. Many other facts stick in my mind. Things like the fact that some countries have more honor students than we have students in general. I have wondered about what the work ethic that takes to produce a educational country as successful as India. When hearing such information of that power it may make you question," what purpose do you have when the world around yourself is evolving faster than we can comprehend." This video made me understand the real importance of my meaning in the World, Mr. Fisch's presentation made me understand that everything has an impact on life, and you are part of making an effort in our society as a whole. The impact of this video on my self makes me realize there are many more opportunities that have yet to be created, many new jobs to be made, and the remembrance that anything is possible.

The great "Inspired Bicycles". This five minute long video was short but never the less incredibly impacting, Danny Macaskill's showed everyone with a dream to go live it out. He showed that staying consistent with the activity you're passionate about will pay off with dedication and perseverance. Danny showed us his skill in "Inspired Bicycles" that you could see in his precision that practice had made perfect. This just shows the potential in us all, whether that maybe in having a strong education or following your true potential in sports or an extra curricular that sparks your interest. I could relate to this video because I understand the amount of effort and work it takes to stick with your passion even when odds may face you. This video shows us that dreams can become your reality.

My role as a learner is to be able to gain as much knowledge as mentally possible. I have always loved grasping new educational concepts, and being able to tech them to fellow class mates. The value of learning is extremely important especially at this point and time in my life as a freshman, trying to look forward to applying to colleges in the fall of my junior year, and being able to go to the college of my top choice. Education means allot to me because I cannot imagine not being able to read or write or comprehend the meaning of education what so ever. I take great pride in my work, and always try experimenting easier ways to solve many things that may phase me in my steps closer to a grand education.

  20. After watching Mr. Fisch's "Did You Know" power point it made me realize how important our little actions are to the world. It also put a new perspective on my mind of how different the parts of the world are, and the cultures we practice. The statistics it showed really surprised me on how much the world has grown in not just technology but also as a whole. The fact that they could have a computer this year smarter than men is just shocking. It shows how different we are now from just 20 years ago. It also surprised me that America isn't one of the top countries anymore, and I wonder if China or India will start to almost take charge because of their higher education rate. It really struck me how low on the chart we were and made me want take my grades seriously and strive even farther with my education and goals. Also, while watching Danny Macaskill's, "Inspired Bikes" it showed me how hard work and dedication really pay off. With the right amount of focus anything can be possible if you try. I can relate it to my life with cheer, too. I really want to make varsity next year, but there are some restrictions holding me back. I would need to work hard to achieve them, but it would all pay off. I learned to pay attention to the little things in life and to always work toward perfection. The value of learning, at this age especially, is huge because it shapes our futures and how we affect the world and those around us. It is extremely important to try your best and earn good grades. My goal as a learner is to work hard in school and set goals for myself to stay on track throughout the year with everything going on in my life.

  21. A fact in Mr. Fisch's "Did you Know" presentation that shocked me was how students are being trained for jobs and problems that don't exist yet. How does that work? Training for jobs that nobody knows about. Also a fact that I was surprised about was that the amount of the population with the highest IQ's in China secedes the total population in the whole North America. The presentation makes me want to step up my effort in the classroom and encourage other students and america to do the same. This will impact me applying for a job because if there is someone from China they would probably hire him or her because of their higher IQ. "Inspired Bicycles" made me think about potential and hard work because of that first trick when he was trying to ride across the spiked fence and how he fell multiple times but kept trying until he finally did it. That takes a lot of hard work because of the danger of the situation. That inspired me to work harder in sports and life. I value learning because it will guide me through life as an adult. My role as a learner is to take in as much knowledge as possible to set my future up the best.

  22. After viewing Mr. Fisch's world-renown "Did you Know" powerpoint, It really made me think that The U.S. isn't as great as many people think it is when it comes to education. Mr. Fisch's powerpoint almost makes me feel guilty that the U.S. isn't as smart as it should be. That every time I slack off I could be doing better. That I should try harder and same with all the other students in the U.S. One thing that shocks me is when Mr. Fisch talked about jobs and what will come in the future. The job I want might not even exist in the future and computers will soon be smarted than the human race! His powerpoint makes my perspective of life change. If you think about it, our generation will just be like the ones our parents lived in. Our children, or the next generation of people, will have technology beyond belief! We will be just like our parents and grandparents, trying to learn how to use technology. Danny Macaskill's, "Inspired Bikes" makes me think many things. The first thing that comes to mind id to try hard and never give up. He failed many times at the tricks he did but overcame them and perfected them. Most people probably relate Danny Macaskill's, "Inspired Bikes" to sports or hobbies, but the thing is you can apply what he did to school work and education. We need to come to class everyday and be determined to try to get an A+, and if we fail we need to try harder, just like Danny was determined to land all his tricks. This can also tie into Mr. Fisch's powerpoint. Us Americans need to be determined to b number one. The value of learning is not to just learn stuff, but it is to apply it to anything or everything in today's word. We need to be ready to learn what will come in the future. I think my role as a learner is to be ready. To be ready for what will come next. It may be tomorrow or it may be 30 years from now.

  23. After watching the video "Did You Know?" I was shocked.I believe that this video changed many people's perspective and view of life and knowledge all together. To know that in maybe just a couple more years a computer could out smart a human brain was appalling. Also to know that china will soon be the number one English speaking country in the word was as well.I do think that we should take learning more seriously because one day the america we know could quickly change.

AS I watched Danny Macaskill in "Inspired Bikes" I was truly amazed. This video showed me that you can achieve in really anything you want.I really enjoyed watching this video because it did inspire me to try to meet my goals and to always try,not to give up.I am now ready to learn and pursue my goals in life.

  24. After watching Mr. Fisch’s Did You Know? presentation I was surprised that our teachers were preparing us for jobs that don’t might not even exist yet. All of us have dreams of what careers we want but then some of us might have jobs that don’t even exist. I was also surprised about how many honor students China had. It was ridiculous that they have more honor students than we have kids. We should take tests more seriously even though they can be long and boring.

When I saw Inspired Bicycles I was amazed that he could do all of those tricks. I cannot imagine how long it must have taken to get all of those tricks down. It shows how much he preserved and kept on trying. He teaches me that if you have your mind set to it you can accomplish anything.

Learning is very important and kids in America are very fortunate to have an education. We should take advantage of the great education we have and use it to the best to our advantage.

  25. After seeing Mr. Fisch's "Did you Know" powerpoint, it made me really stop and think about how this world is creating unbelievable technology. Technology is incredible. In most situations, it's helping the world become more resourceful and in some ways, smarter. In other situations, I feel like it is getting way out of hand. Technology has gotten people in trouble for things they never would have done if technology wasn't there in the first place. In some ways it is also showing that a lot of people don't know some of the most simple things due to technology. If someone doesn't know something, Google is their #1 go to. In the powerpoint, it said that there is going to be a super computer that will be smarter than the human race. To me, that seems way over the top and everyone needs to take a second and think about what the world needs and what it could do without. Instead of thinking about things that could make life just a little easier, we should be focusing on things like better education. Although I do think that technology is doing amazing things in this word that are making our future better.
When I saw the "Inspired Bikes" video, I thought it was really incredible to visually see that if you put your mind to something that you want to do, you can do it. When I saw this video, I was surprised about how much it made me really think about my dreams in life, and how I can make them a reality if I really believe in myself. I think my role as a learner means that I have to absorb all of the information that I am being taught and put it to good use to my community and teach other people.

  26. After seeing Mr.Fisch’s power point, a few things really ideas really stuck me. First I finally realized how often and how fast things change and grow. It also points out that, even if we think we are, we’re not the best country in the world. It also makes me realize how big the world actually is and how there’s always someone working and making something better.
After watching Danny Macaskill's, "Inspired Bikes" and being in admiration, I thought that the video really showed perseverance and hard work. No one can become that good at combining parkour and BMX while not trying their hardest. It really showed me that if you keep trying and never give up at what you want to do you can do it.

I think that there is a lot in the value of learning but it’s really in the eye of the beholder. If someone doesn't care about knowledge then learning is worthless to them. We, as freshmen, have already learned the basic skills, from here on out we are learning how to make those skills better and starting to focus on what the rest of our lives will look like. Now I really value learning, even if I don’t feel like it on that day, because I love learning new things; and based on Mr. Fisch’s video it’s important to keep learning new things because there’s always new things to learn. I think it’s my job as a learner to actually try and understand what I’m being taught. If the teachers try as hard as they do I think the least I can do is care about what they’re teaching and what they do to teach us.

  27. After watching Mr. Fiches "Did You Know" video many things struck me about it. The first fact that surprised me is that China is close to becoming the number one English speaking country. This shows that English will most likely become the worldwide language despite all of the other languages across the globe. Another fact that surprised me was that one in eight couples have met online. Does this mean that people have become less sociably able to talk to other people, because 50 years ago there were no dating websites? This leads me to believe that soon enough if we stay on the same track, almost every couple will have met online. More facts that shocked me were the ones that told how the US in declining in its leader board positions across the world. Although, just because India has more honors students than the US, that doesn't make the US any less smart. It just means that India has an enormously large population. Also the US may not have as many honors students in the percentage of total students because we choose to educate all students not just the smartest. A fact that inspired me was the fact about the one hundred dollar laptop project. This shows that people still care about the undeveloped countries that need the more fortunate's help.
The Danny Macaskill video was also inspiring. As a trials riding fan myself I know how hard the tricks are that he is attempting. I also know how many times people my age would give up on one trick if they did not succeed at it the first couple times. After watching almost all of Danny's videos in the past his "Imagine bicycles" is always the video that I go back to. It demonstrates how as long as you try something and never give up, anything is possible. I can apply this to my own life by knowing that giving up is not the way to do things. I must try until I succeed! The value of learning is to set me up for the life I have ahead of me. In the end even if I think that I am going to do something for a job that involves math or science, if I wanted to changes career paths then I would have my previous learning to fall back on. My role as a learner is to absorb as much knowledge as I can because I know sooner or later I will need to use it.

  28. After seeing MR.Fisch's power point I found it very interesting the china and India have more honor students then we have kids and that very soon china will be the most English speaking country in the world and that bye the time im in college a computer will be smarter then the human race
Danny macaskill's video taught me something I already knew and that is to never give up and it was nothing new we have been taught that our whole life but no one has really done it but this guy did.
learning like life is what you make it. you can either sit there and do nothing or jump in and get something out of it. learning is important cause with out it we wouldn't be alive we are always learning changing and adapting to live with out learning we would still be in caves with sticks and rocks. I think it is our job as learners to pay attention and ask questions and participate.

  29. After watching the presentation, I learned a couple of things. I learned that china and India have more honor students then we have kids. Also that there's gonna be a computer that smarter then a human. I learned that there was a lot of babies being born in the time period of the video.
That if i work hard then i can do amazing things in life and achieve a lot. To never give up in something that's hard, you just need to work harder.
The value of learning is knowledge. If you don't know any thing then what good are you. What kind of life are you going to have (not a good one) Learning helps us prepare us for the future. My role as a learner is to learn. Any way that I can, by asking questions, by answering questions, and by helping others.
